Mount
Meru is located within Arusha National Park and is the most
beautiful volcano. The ascent is quite steep and the route passes
over streams, parkland and forest. The summit is reached by a
narrow, barren ridge which provides stunning views of the Ash Cone
lying several thousand feet below the crater.
Day 1: Commence the climb the path passes open grassland and
forest. During this initial climb you will have the opportunity to
see buffalo, warthogs and monkeys! By mid afternoon you will see
the towering cliffs and Ash Cone it is here that you will enjoy the
sunset over the plains.
Day 2: We will leave early morning to Saddle Hut below Little Meru;
this will be a short day but a steep climb. During out ascent we
will stop at Elephant Ridge, the halfway point, and enjoy excellent
view of the summit ridge and the crater floor.
Day 3: We will start at 2 am to reach the summit at sunrise. The
walk back along the narrow ridge is the most dramatic and
exhilarating walks in Africa.
